An exciting opportunity is available for a working professional interested in gaining experience as a board member
Arctic business executive program aims to educate and guide talents with interest in board member work and offers a learning period for both our start-ups and future board members, with guidance from our advisors who possess specialist expertise in the area.
We are looking for a wide range of profiles to match the competence needed by our 20+ Start up companies, all operating in different markets and sectors. Whether you have a middle management background, industry knowledge, a strong contact network, or other skill sets, your contribution will diversify the required need. More importantly, you bring valuable knowledge and experience to question and question senior management and the status quo.
As a board member, you will work mostly on a strategic level providing foresight, oversight, and insight, akin to scanning the horizon for potential threats or opportunities. Depending on your skillset and experience, you will focus on areas such as:
- Assistance, support and guidance in strategic initiatives, road mapping, and organizational planning
- Evaluating the CEO's performance and questioning the business and its decisions
- Establishing the organization's vision, mission, and purpose
- Ensuring fiduciary oversight, resource development, and fundraising
- Enhancing the organization's public image
If needed, guidance in stewardship, decision-making, and strategy will be fully accessible, as you can draw upon the advisors from arctic business, who have long experience in these areas. Additionally, workshops on corporate governance, lean startup, team building, and finance will be conducted in the first quarter to ensure you possess the necessary abilities before being assigned to one of our start-up companies.
We prioritize your self-development and skill enhancement, which will further benefit your career beyond this assignment. This is not a full-time commitment and can be pursued alongside your day job, with maybe 1 hour of work per week or so (expect for the mandatory board meetings/learning modules)
We will provide education and preparation for the assignments, and board members will meet with the company 2-3 times per quarter.
We are happy to receive applications especially from women, and onboarding is set to take place 4of November when we will have our first workshop. Some of the board member work can be done fully remote but physical board member meetings will occur with the companies as well as our workshops, therefore we need candidates that are willing to make it up here on those occasions.
Priority will be given for candidates based in Luleå, Piteå and Skellefteå and nearby locations
This role will give you a satisfaction of making a difference in the community, working with innovative companies that will disrupt the market, opportunity to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds, development of effective decision-making skills, increased understanding of group dynamics and relationships and learn the trade of important Board Member work, from a start up perspective
