About Visar Systems
Visar Systems AB is a Swedish cybersecurity company developing secure computing platforms for critical systems with demanding regulatory and certification requirements.

Our core product, DeeDee, is an open and Debian-compatible Linux operating system designed to give organisations a secure and stable foundation without unnecessary vendor lock-in. We believe that digital sovereignty, transparency and long-term maintainability are essential for systems operating in critical environments.

Visar Systems was founded in 2025 and is based in the Luleå region. We are a close-knit team of three people with experience in software development, systems design, large-scale capacity planning, cybersecurity and business development.

Our core product is operational and is already being evaluated in live customer environments. We are now turning early deployments and customer-specific integrations into a scalable commercial product.

About the internship
We are looking for a technically curious and versatile intern who wants practical experience across software development, Linux systems, infrastructure and customer integration.

This is not an internship built around one isolated task. Depending on current priorities, you may write code, package software, improve development processes, troubleshoot Linux environments, support customer integrations or produce technical documentation.

You will work closely with our technical team and receive guidance from people with experience in secure systems, software development, infrastructure and large-scale operations.

We also value initiative and independent problem-solving. You should be comfortable investigating technical problems, asking relevant questions and moving your work forward within established technical and security frameworks.

What you may work with
Your assignments will be adapted to your existing skills, interests and development goals. They may include:

• Developing, maintaining and testing components within our Linux-based product environment.

• Writing code and scripts in different languages depending on the task.

• Packaging software and contributing to the development of our own Linux distribution.

• Working with Git and CI/CD in our self-hosted GitLab environment.

• Supporting and improving development, build and deployment processes.

• Working with internally managed servers and technical infrastructure.

• Testing integrations between Visar Systems’ technology and customer environments.

• Helping develop customer-specific solutions that can become reusable product capabilities.

• Troubleshooting across software, operating systems, infrastructure and integrations.

• Contributing to systems design and technical architecture discussions.

• Producing technical, operational and compliance-related documentation.

• Supporting customer pilots and other technical customer activities.

• Contributing to planned information-security certification work and third-party-reviewed CE marking of the product.

The balance between programming, Linux systems, infrastructure, integration and documentation will depend on your background and the projects underway during the internship.

Our technical environment

Our technical environment includes:

• Linux, including our own Debian-compatible distribution.

• Traditional infrastructure and software packaging.

• Self-managed servers and development environments.

• Git-based development using a self-hosted GitLab instance.

• CI/CD and automated development workflows.

• Open-source software and open standards.

• Programming and scripting across languages such as Rust, C++, Go, Python and Bash, depending on the task.

Visar Systems operates its own infrastructure wherever practical. We favour solutions that support digital sovereignty, transparency and long-term independence.

Who we are looking for
You do not need to be an expert in every area. We are looking for someone with a broad technical foundation who can apply existing knowledge to new problems and is comfortable moving between different technical responsibilities.

We believe that you have several of the following:

• Academic studies, professional experience or substantial personal projects within computer science, software engineering, IT, cybersecurity or a related field.

• Practical experience working with Linux.

• Some experience in software development or scripting.

• Familiarity with Git and basic software development workflows.

• An interest in systems architecture, infrastructure or technical integration.

• A methodical approach to troubleshooting.

• The ability to write clear and structured technical documentation.

• A security-conscious approach to systems and information.

• The ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team.

• Professional working proficiency in written and spoken English.

You must be comfortable working in an environment where security requirements influence which tools, platforms and working methods can be used.

Additional advantages
Experience in any of the following is beneficial but not required:

• Debian or another Debian-based Linux distribution.

• Debian packaging or related build technologies.

• Open-source development or personal open-source projects.

• Self-hosted or on-premises infrastructure.

• Rust, C++, Go, Python, Bash or other relevant programming languages.

• CI/CD systems and GitLab.

• Systems hardening or secure configuration.

• Regulated sectors such as defence, energy, industry, finance, healthcare or government.

• Information-security and compliance frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001 or GDPR.

We also value open-source contributions, home labs, Linux administration, software packages and other hands-on technical projects completed outside formal employment or education.

Security and trust
Our products are designed for critical environments, including defence, industrial systems and energy infrastructure.

Swedish citizenship or an existing security clearance is not a formal requirement. However, we maintain strict internal security policies and conduct an internal security assessment and background check as part of the selection process.

Trust, sound judgement and responsible handling of information are essential.

Location and working arrangements
The internship can be completed remotely. However, our team is based in the Luleå region, and it is an advantage if you live nearby or can participate in on-site activities when needed.

Being close to the team may provide additional opportunities to work directly with our infrastructure, participate in technical discussions and join customer or partner activities.
